One of the ways I adapted my small city apartment to my needs was to transform the previously unused “dining room” into a reading corner filled with books and to use the coffee table in my living room to take most of my meals instead. I am very attached to this life of sitting on the floor, which I also find useful when inviting friends to a game night or book club (who doesn’t want to sit next to the deli table?). When my knitted and worn-out footstool finally reached the retirement stage (it looked like a flattened pancake), I had in sight a Moroccan leather footstool embroidered in metallic gold. But this hunt for decoration turned out to be more tricky than I thought, at least when it comes to quality pouffes that don’t cost a fortune.

After researching flea markets and my usual home décor retailers for options outside my price range, I went to Amazon to see if I could find the perfect pouffe. I quickly realized that not all pouffes are created equal, and without seeing it in person, I was afraid I would accidentally end up with a pouffe made for a dollhouse (you’ve seen the memes) or at least a bulky product that I wasn’t 100% satisfied with and that I would have to return.

With a decent number of reviews and a four and a half star rating, I felt pretty confident buying this authentic handmade metallic leather pouffe in gold from Moroccan Flair ($170). I took the plunge, and I’m very happy with it, as it definitely exceeded my expectations. It arrived quickly (in the purest Amazon Prime style) and its quality is impressive, costing less than half the price of some of the Moroccan Flair pouffes I was looking at. Even after using it for over a year for coffee table meals, as an extra seat for parties and as a footstool, it has remained firm and still looks new. It is also available in 11 additional colors, making it suitable for use in any stylish room. Buy them all in advance!

An essential piece in bohemian style interior decoration. The Moroccan Leather Ottoman / Ottoman, often hand sewn in Morocco and made of real leather, mostly goatskin (sometimes cowhide), are real little handicrafts.

Moroccan footstools can be found in the living room as well as in the bedroom for adults or babies. Perfect footrests, these poufs also serve as cushions to sit on the floor or for animals to rest. For a purely decorative accent, you can also put a serving tray on it and use it as a coffee table.

The footstools are a relaxing accessory whose origins date back to the Ottoman Empire and the Arab world.

An integral part of Turkish culture during the time of the great Ottoman Empire, the Ottoman footstool, as a type of furniture, was brought to Europe through trade in the late 1700s, when the word “Ottoman” and its French equivalent “ottoman” were popularized. The word “ottoman” is a strange enough word to refer to a piece of furniture. Ottomans were named after the empire itself and the name has remained, although many synonyms have been derived over time – poufs, haddocks, ottomans, etc. – and have been used in the name of furniture.

In the Arab world, long before the date indicated, it was widely used to decorate and furnish houses. They were usually made of leather and had fabrics inside that formed part of the upholstery. Real giant cushions to relax the body and mind whenever necessary.

The first footstools were born as royal seats or, in some cases, as footrests with square lines and a comfort that was certainly not the best. Over the years, this complement has undergone various aesthetic and functional transformations.

Combine one with a club chair or sofa to add a dose of functionality and style. From the most ornate to the simplest of designs, you’re sure to find a pouffe  ottoman that suits your living space. Here are a few things to consider before buying a pouffe or ottoman for your home. Before diving into the world of footstools/ottomans, it is time to decide on the general design. More traditional designs provide simple comfort and style, while used ottomans or vintage ottomans add a sense of history and warmth to the desired space. In addition, footstools with hidden storage are both functional and practical, especially for small rooms or apartments. After choosing the best design for the size and style of the space, it is time to reduce the desired shape of the ottoman. The shape dictates where and how the ottoman will be used, so this is a crucial detail to consider.Square: Square shaped ottomans are generally the most common. They offer the most placement possibilities with the current furnishings of a space. Place this symmetrically shaped ottoman in the center of a sofa with two chairs on each side, and it can be the finishing touch in a vintage-inspired room.Rectangular: Rectangular ottomans allow for a larger surface area, which means more room to rest your feet and usually comes with more storage space inside the ottoman. These traditional ottomans are available with the standard tufted cushion top or in the cocktail style.Round: Round footstools are the largest, and are a must in any space. From the smallest footstool style, perfect for one person, to the sprawling style, designed as the centerpiece of a furniture collection, these pieces will fit any room configuration.Oval: Although less common, oval footstools add an atmosphere of luxury to a room. Their width is ideal to accommodate several people at a time, while being functional and visually appealing.
